Felon Arrested with Guns in Stolen Vehicle
(Posted 8/20/2020)

On Tuesday 8/18/2020 just before 1:00 a.m., Yuba County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 42-year-old Anthony Lira of Bangor for auto theft, being a felon in possession of a loaded and concealed firearm, possession of ammunition as a prohibited person, and possession of a firearm without a serial number (otherwise known as a “ghost gun”). The stolen vehicle, a white two door 2012 Nissan Altima stolen from Marysville, was seen leaving the Hard Rock Casino parking lot on Forty Mile Rd in Wheatland shortly after midnight on 8/18/2020. Approximately 30 minutes later, a deputy searching the area located the vehicle on Hwy 65 as it exited onto Forty Mile Rd headed back to the casino. A felony traffic stop was conducted on the stolen vehicle in the north entrance of the Hard Rock Casino parking lot. The driver, identified as Anthony Lira, was detained without further incident. There were no other occupants in the Altima. During a search of the vehicle, two handguns, one of which was loaded, were located in the trunk of the vehicle. One of the guns was also a “ghost gun”; a gun without a serial number. The owner of the stolen vehicle responded to take possession of the car and advised the guns did not belong to him and were not in the car previously. Lira is a previously convicted felon and prohibited from possessing guns or ammunition. Lira was booked into Yuba County Jail with a bail amount of $50,000 where he remains in custody as of 8/20/2020.
