Two Arrested in East Linda Shooting
(Posted 4/17/2020)

On Thursday 4/16/2020 at approximately 4:45 P.M., the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call regarding a gunshot fired from a car at another vehicle, missing it but striking a residence behind it in the 1600 block of Cattail Drive in East Linda. It was determined a single bullet had penetrated a wall to the home and narrowly missed a young girl sitting on a bed. A description of the involved vehicles, a silver Honda Accord from which the shot reportedly came from and a silver Dodge truck following it and that was believed to be the intended target, was broadcast to neighboring law enforcement. The Honda was later located and stopped by Yuba City Police Department. Yuba County Sheriff Detectives responded to Yuba City and contacted driver Joshua Schroer and passenger Damian Stearns. Both were detained and transported to Yuba County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. When Schroer was detained, he was extremely combative with officers and assaulted a Sheriff Sergeant. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect vehicle and a handgun was located that matched the caliber of a casing found at the scene of the shooting. Stearns, age 18 of Chico; and Schroer age 22 address unknown; were arrested for 245(a)(2)PC/Assault with a Firearm and 246PC/Negligent Discharge of a Firearm. Additionally, Schroer was charged with 69PC/Assault on a Peace Officer. They were booked into the Yuba County Jail last night with a bail of 250,000 each.
