Felon Arrested for Guns and Stolen Property Violations
(Posted 6/6/2019)

Just before midnight on 6/6/19, Yuba County Sheriff Deputies arrested 30-year-old Vernon Steele of Olivehurst for Auto Theft, Resisting Arrest, and multiple firearms violations for being a felon prohibited to possess guns and ammunition. Vernon Steele was wanted following a stop of he and his wife Stacey, by California Fish and Wildlife around noon on June 4th in the Spenceville Wildlife area that led to the impoundment of their vehicle and trailer. On 6/5/19 a search warrant was served on Steele’s impounded vehicles leading to the discovery of numerous illegally possessed firearms; including illegal assault weapons, two concealed loaded handguns of which one had been reported stolen, body armor, and smoke grenades. Vernon Steele had also been in possession of an ATV reported stolen out of Gridley. Vernon and Stacey Steele had left the scene of the original Spenceville stop prior to law enforcement locating the above illegally possessed and stolen property; therefore a BOLO/Be on the Lookout and ATL/Attempt to Locate was issued for their arrests after the initial contact and subsequent search warrant. At approximately 9 p.m. on 6/5/19, a YCSO Deputy on Patrol in Olivehurst spotted Vernon and Stacey Steele in a red Dodge Charger and attempted to stop the vehicle on S. Gledhill Avenue. Vernon, who was driving, ran from the vehicle and a foot pursuit was initiated, but Vernon was able to evade capture at that time. His wife Stacey remained in the vehicle and was taken into custody. Deputies continued to search the area for several hours in an attempt to locate Vernon. Just after midnight 6/6/19, a citizen called YCSO to report seeing Vernon on S. Gledhill. Deputies responded immediately, located Vernon Steele hiding behind a dumpster in an alley off S. Gledhill, and took him into custody. The investigation into the recovered stolen property remains ongoing.
