Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator - Steven L. Durfor
Sheriff Steven Durfor began his law enforcement career with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department in 1987 as a Deputy Sheriff. His assignments have included Patrol Deputy, SWAT Team member, Field Training Officer and Detective. In 1991, he was promoted to Sergeant which included responsibilities of patrol supervisor, Assistant Chief Deputy Coroner, Reserve Deputy Program Coordinator, Patrol Field Training Program Coordinator and SWAT Assistant Team Leader. He was promoted to Operations (Patrol) Division Lieutenant in 1995, supervising all patrol sergeants. In 1996, he was promoted to Chief of Detectives placing him in charge of major crime investigations and serving as SWAT Team and Professional Standards Unit Commander. In 1999, he was selected as Undersheriff.
 

Sheriff Durfor was elected by the people of Yuba County to be their Sheriff, Coroner and Public Administrator on June 6, 2006 and assumed command of the department on January 8, 2007. Sheriff Durfor is the 27th Sheriff of Yuba County.
 

Sheriff Durfor has completed numerous management and professional training courses, including POST Management School, POST Executive Development, Internal Affairs, and FBI National Academy. He possesses many professional certificates and has been an instructor with the Criminal Justice Program at Yuba Community College for several years. Sheriff Durfor holds an Associate of Science degree from Yuba Community College in Administration of Justice and graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.
 

Over the course of his career, Sheriff Durfor has received many honors, including: Yuba County Sheriff’s Department Officer of the Year, California Attorney General’s Certificate of Valor, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, California Peace Officer’s Association Award of Merit, and recipient of the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department Bronze Medal of Merit.

Sheriff Durfor is an active member of the California State Sheriff's Association, California State Coroner's Association, FBI National Academy Associates, Marysville Kiwanis Club, Friday Night Live and Executive Board of the Feather River Men's Center.

Sheriff Durfor was born and raised in Marysville and is a life long resident of the Yuba-Sutter area. He is married to his wife Lori, and has two children, Richard and Audrey.
