Undersheriff
Jerry Read
Undersheriff Jerry Read began his law enforcement career in 1981
as a Yuba County Deputy Sheriff. He held positions in the jail,
patrol and detective units and attained the rank of Captain in
1992. In 2000, Read went to work for the California State Board
of Corrections where he held positions of Field Representative,
Deputy Director of two different divisions and Acting Executive
Director. In 2007, Read returned to the Yuba County Sheriff’s
Department, accepting the position of Undersheriff. As
Undersheriff, Read reports directly to the Sheriff and is
responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of all
divisions in the department.
Undersheriff Read holds an Associate of Science Degree in
Administration of Justice and a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Business Management. He has completed hundreds of hours of law
enforcement and corrections training. He is a past member and
foreperson of the Yuba County Grand Jury, past member of the
Salvation Army Advisory Board, and past member and President of
the Active 20/30 Club of Marysville and Yuba City. He is
currently a member of the California State Sheriff’s
Association, the American Correctional Association, and is a
member of the
Three Rivers Chapter of the American Red Cross Board of
Directors.
Undersheriff
Read has lived in the Yuba/Sutter area since 1966. He has two
sons; Jarod and Bryan. In his spare time, Undersheriff Read
enjoys spending time with his children, hiking, home improvement
projects and community involvement.
