Jail Division Commander
Captain Mark Chandless
Captain Mark Chandless began his law enforcement career with the
Yuba County Sheriff’s Department in 1981 as a patrol deputy.
Through the years, Captain Chandless has served in a variety of
capacities including detective, patrol sergeant, Lieutenant of
the Civil/Court Security and Fiscal Division, Operations
Division Commander, Support Services Commander and Jail
Commander. In his current assignment as the Jail Division
Commander he is responsible for the administration and operation
of the Yuba County Jail, which has a capacity of 428 prisoners.
Additionally he oversees court security, bailiffs and the
Sheriff’s Civil Office.
Captain Chandless was raised in Southern California and attended
Washington State University and graduated with a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Business Administration. He has been a long-term
Hallwood resident, is married to wife Jackie and has three
children, Matthew, Marcy and James. He and his family farm
walnuts and hay. He has coached youth football for the
Marysville Chiefs and junior varsity football for Marysville
High School.
