Two teenage boys from Olivehurst were arrested Saturday morning for breaking in and vandalizing an Olivehurst middle school, Sheriff Steve Durfor said today.
Shortly before 4 AM Saturday, the Sheriff’s Department received a report of a motion alarm activation inside a classroom at Yuba Gardens Intermediate School on 11th Avenue in Olivehurst. As the first deputy arrived at the school, he saw two boys (aged 13 and 16) riding away from the school on bicycles. He stopped them and immediately saw that they were carrying laptops and a digital camera, and had laptop batteries sticking out of their pockets.
The boys were detained and searched. Over $1200 worth of electronic equipment was found in their possession. Several of the items were marked as the property of Marysville Joint Unified School District.
When deputies checked the school, they located three classrooms that had been burglarized and vandalized. The boys later admitted entering the woodshop by smashing the window with a fire extinguisher. They then admitted stealing two axes, which they used to smash windows, televisions, and computer monitors in the classrooms. As they left, they stole two laptops, numerous laptop batteries, and several memory sticks. The boys also admitted using rocks to smash the windshield and three windows of a construction company water truck which was parked at the school.
Both boys were booked into Bi-County Juvenile Hall for felony vandalism, burglary, conspiracy, and possession of tobacco products.
