Moving Company Embezzlement Investigation
(Posted 8/29/2018)

Yuba County Sheriff’s Department has referred an Embezzlement case to the FBI and US Attorneys Office involving a national moving company scam and a business named Flagship Van Lines, after two separate victims came forward regarding having property embezzled after contracting with the company to have belongings moved from California to Arizona and Oregon. The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department learned of two individuals that had fallen victim to a moving Company “Flagship Van Lines.” Investigators discovered that Flagship Van Lines were embezzling people’s property while operating a moving scheme. The first victim reported that she moved from Linda, Ca to Arizona and only half her belongings had made it there after paying a large sum of money to them. The second victim reported that he moved from Lancaster, Ca to the State of Washington and his property never arrived after also paying the company a large sum of money. Both victims provided information that led investigators to a storage unit at a self-storage business in the 5000 block of Chestnut Avenue. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Department obtained a search warrant of the storage unit and located the property of both victims, as well as property for two additional victims. The estimated value of the recovered property is approximately $50,000. Similar cases are under investigation on the East Coast, therefore the local cases were referred to federal authorities for prosecution.
