Drive-by Homicide

*UPDATE 4/30/18* Identity of victim released: The victim of the homicide 4/26/18 has been identified as 24 year old Jose Zuniga-Juache of Olivehurst. On Thursday 4/26/18 at approximately 6:44pm, Yuba County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a drive-by shooting in the 1800 block of 6th Avenue in Olivehurst. The caller reported that a bicyclist was shot and lying in the street. Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim. CPR was initiated and the victim was transported to Rideout Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses provided a description the suspect vehicle and its occupants, which was broadcast to all local agencies. A short time later, a Marysville Police Officer spotted a car matching the description and attempted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued. The vehicle eventually came to a stop on North Levee Road in Marysville where the driver and three passengers were all detained and ultimately arrested in connection to the homicide. Of the four arrested, two were adult males and two were juveniles males. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang related, but remains under investigation. The victim was a 23-year-old Olivehurst resident; his identity is being withheld pending notification of family. Arrested were: • Christopher Garcia, age 23 of Yuba City • Alex Ruiz, age 18 of Marysville • 16 year old male from Marysville • 17 year old male from Olivehurst The adult suspects were booked into Yuba County Jail, and the juveniles were booked into Juvenile Hall. Charges include 187 PC, 12022.53(e)(1) PC, 186.22(a) PC, 186.22(b)(1) PC and 25400(c)(3) PC. The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.
