Press Release Story

Sexually Violent Predator relocating to Yuba County June 1, 2017
(Posted 5/25/2017)

The State of California Department of State Hospitals is planning to place ELDRIDGE CHANEY JR at a residence located at 647 ELLIS ROAD, MARYSVILLE, CA; on JUNE 1, 2017. He will be monitored by a State Contracted Agency called “Liberty Healthcare” and will also be subject to GPS monitoring. Yuba County Sheriff’s Office will oversee his Sex Offender registration and will work closely with Liberty Health to ensure his compliance with the terms of his registration. CHANEY is a SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR who has criminal convictions for Rape, Sexual Assault and Assault to Commit Rape. His crimes were committed in the City of Seaside, CA from 1978-1988; and he spent over ten years in prison before being committed to the CA State Sex Offender program in 2000. In February 2017, Yuba County Sheriff Steven Durfor and District Attorney Patrick McGrath traveled to Monterey County Superior Court to present the county’s objection to the placement of Chaney into Yuba County; however the Judge ruled that Chaney’s placement proposal was approved. Yuba County Sheriff Steven Durfor and District Attorney Patrick McGrath held a public information meeting for the citizens of District 10 (rural neighborhoods near Ellis Rd location) on Thursday March 9th, 2017 at 6:30pm in the Yuba County Board of Supervisors Chambers at the Government Center located 915 8th Avenue in Marysville, to answer questions and explain the process of Chaney’s supervision in our county. Chaney was originally scheduled to arrive at the end of March 2017 but his release was put on hold pending a court hearing to review future evacuation plans for Chaney if needed, following the events at Oroville Dam earlier this year. Following that hearing, we were notified that Chaney’s placement plan to Ellis Road would proceed. It is now known that his arrival date is scheduled for June 1, 2017.
