Yuba-Sutter area lifts most evacuation orders Residents encouraged to remain alert and be prepared
(Posted 2/21/2017)

All evacuation orders are lifted for Yuba City, Live Oak, Marysville, Wheatland, Yuba County, and all portions of Sutter County except for the Meridian and Robbins basins, effective at 6 p.m. today. The Meridian and Robbins basin remain under advisory evacuation, meaning be prepared to evacuate in the event of an emergency. High flows on the Sacramento River and in the Sutter Bypass have saturated the levees. In most instances, the levees there are performing as expected, however the longer water remains high in the river the greater the risk of a levee failure. While the advisory evacuation was lifted in the Nicolaus and East Nicolaus areas of Sutter County, residents there are also cautioned to remain alert due to saturated levees that protect that basin. In those areas where evacuation orders are lifted, the decision was made after assessing several different factors, including the flow of local rivers, the condition of area levees, progress on repairs to the Lake Oroville spillway and current reservoir levels. Officials say the events that led up to the February 12 evacuation order should be a reminder to all residents that they need to be constantly alert of changing weather and river conditions. They should also continue to be diligent in preparing for any emergency situation by preparing evacuation plans, packing go-bags and signing up for emergency alerts.
