On 07-24-13, Yuba County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 800 block of N. Beale Rd to investigate the death of an 11-day-old infant girl, according to Sheriff Steven L. Durfor. The motel room where the death occurred was searched pursuant to a search warrant, and among the items recovered were several items of drug paraphernalia including hypodermic syringes, plastic baggies, scales, and other items consistent with narcotics sales. An uncapped and fully exposed hypodermic syringe and needle containing a liquid substance suspected to be heroin was found close to the ground and easily accessible to a 5 year old boy who had also been living in the motel room for several days prior to the infant’s death.
The mother of the children, Jenifer Marie Sierra, 27, of Marysville was arrested for outstanding warrants on 07-24-13, and following additional investigation, was arrested on July 25, 2013 for felony child endangerment.
An autopsy has been conducted on the 11-day old girl to determine the cause of death. The results of the autopsy are pending additional medical analysis.
