At approximately 0300 hours, Joanne Cardoza, 49 of Dobbins called 911 and reported that she had accidentally stabbed her boyfriend, Buck Day, 43 of Oregon House, according to Sheriff Steve Durfor. Cardoza, who was extremely upset, requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Department and medical personnel. YCSO and emergency medical personnel responded, but Day was unable to be resuscitated. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 0350 hours.
During a subsequent interview with Cardoza, she advised detectives of the following: She has been involved in a relationship with Day for approximately the last 5 years. The two of them lived together at one point, but currently live in separate locations. Cardoza said she had been in an ongoing argument with Day for most of the day on 05-12-13. The argument escalated to the point that Day “rushed” at Cardoza, who was standing in the kitchen of her residence. She grabbed a 3 foot long sword from a nearby table and pointed it at Day. As he got closer, she stabbed him with the sword on the upper left side of his chest.
Cardoza was subsequently booked into the Yuba County where she is being held without bail.
