Undersheriff Ron Johnson
Undersheriff Ron Johnson began his law
enforcement career with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department in 1983
as a Deputy Sheriff. After assignments with Patrol and
Investigations he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1988. He
was promoted to Lieutenant in 1992 and then promoted to the rank of
Captain in 2000. On July 1, 2016 he was selected as the Undersheriff
by Sheriff Steve Durfor.
During his career, Undersheriff Johnson has served the Sheriff’s Department in many roles. As a Deputy Sheriff and Sergeant he was assigned to both Patrol and Investigations. He was also a Field Training Officer and later Coordinator for the Field Training Program. He spent nearly 10 years with the Department’s SWAT Team that included assignment as team leader. As Lieutenant, he supervised the Communications Unit, Investigations Unit, and served both the Support Services and Jail Divisions. As Captain, he was the Division Commander of both the Support Services and Operations Divisions.
Undersheriff Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management and Associate of Science Degree in Administration of Justice. He is a 1999 graduate of the FBI National Academy. He was named the Sheriff’s Department’s Officer of the Year in 1990. He is the recipient of the Department’s Bronze Medal of Merit and the California Peace Officer’s Association’s Award of Merit. Undersheriff Johnson is also an instructor with the Criminal Justice Program at Yuba College.
Undersheriff Johnson is married to Stephanie, Chief Criminal Investigator with the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office. They make their home in Yuba City and have four sons between them.
